How to unlock Bootloader of Nexus Device

Every android device comes with locked Bootloader, so that users can not mess with the their device. And the good thing is that most of the device’s Bootloader can be unlocked.  And method for unlocking Bootloader varies from device to device.

Here in this post I am gonna explain, What exactly Bootloader is ? Why you should Unlock it ? and How to unlock the Bootloader for nexus Device?

 

What is Bootloader?

In simple term, Bootloader is a piece of code that execute before the Operating system. Bootloader is responsible to boot Operating System’s Kernel. Since the Bootloader is the first piece of code that gets executed and hence it is more device specific. Every processor and motherboard has different Bootloader. Since the Bootloader is different of every android device, this is the reason why there is different custom ROM’s for different device has to be developed.

Why to Unlock Bootloader on Android Devices?

Unlocking Bootloader will let you to install custom framework on to your device. And to install custom framework you need to root your android device and to root you will be required to have Bootloader unlocked.

Warning : Unlocking your phone’s Bootloader will void its warranty and it also wipes (formats), contents of the internal memory. So better make a back up of it .

 How to Unlock Bootloader of Nexus Device?

In order to unlock the bootloader of nexus, you will require a tool called, FastBoot . Download it and extract it in any folder on you PC.

Step 1: First Step will be to enable Developers Option on you device. Go to setting >> About phone >> tap continuously seven times on the build number option.

Step 2: Now Enable USB Debugging, Go to Setting >> Developers Option >> Check on to enable USB Debugging option.

Step 3:  Connect your device to your PC.

Step 4:  Open the folder in which you have extracted FastBoot. Now Press shift key and right click on empty area and select “Open Command window here option”. This will open command prompt.

Step 5: In the command window, just type following command and hit ENTER. It will reboot your phone into bootloader mode.

Step 6: When you see an android logo on to the screen of your phone, type the following command and hit ENTER. It is for unlocking the Bootloader.

As soon as you hit Enter, a prompt will appear on your device, tap on to ‘yes’ and this will wipe all the data of your device. And your device’s boot loader will be unlocked.
